Message from the President
WELCOME to the Western Carolinas Arabian Horse Association's site. We are all Arabian enthusiasts living primarily in the western and upstate portions of North and South Carolina. We do have members residing in other states as well.
Our non-profit organization was formed in the late 1970's by a small group of Arabian owners with a similar interest in breeding and promoting our proud breed of horses. We have grown from that small group to approximately 150 adult and 30 youth members. Even though our specific interests vary from endurance, trail, dressage, hunter over fences and even racing, the focus is still on presenting our Arabian horses as a diversified and family oriented horse.
WCAHA proudly presents and supports many programs and events throughout the year. Each spring and fall we offer rated Arabian/half Arabian shows at the T. Ed Garrison Arena in Pendleton SC. We have been at this facility with shows for the past 22 years. As part of the fall show we present our WCAHA Futurity program horses. Our stallion service auction has been able to support our Futurity with more than $100,000 over the past 5 years.
WCAHA also has been sponsoring the Equine March Madness Open Horse Show to raise funds to support the Clemson University Collegiate Horseman's Association (CCHA). We also enlist CCHA members to assist with other events throughout the year. Many of these students pursue equine related professions after graduation. We are very proud of our efforts on their behalf.
Robert ObermillerWCAHA President 2012
WCAHA is also a proud sponsor of the Region 12 Youth Jamboree which is celebrating its 24th year in 2012. Many of our club members volunteer many long hours to support our young horsemen and women. This will be the fifth year that the Jamboree will be held at the Garrison Arena. WCAHA also conducts fundraisers each year to provide a pizza party for the youth via a silent auction and pig toss.
Our club was awarded club of the year in 2010 by the Arabian Horse Association in two of four categories. We took honors in membership retention and community outreach. We are proud of our accomplishments and grateful for the recognition on the national stage. This national award speaks volumes about our Officers’ and Directors’ dedication.
WCAHA membership initiated through our club secretary includes a free ($10.00 value) subscription to the AHA magazine, free nomination for members' horses into the club's High Point program, and a free luncheon at the club's general membership meeting at the November show. Visit us often as we post information on a regular basis. Also feel free to contact any of our officers, board members or committee chairs to answer your specific questions. Thank you for visiting.
