Message from the President
WELCOME to the Western Carolinas Arabian Horse Association's site. We are all Arabian enthusiasts living primarily in the western and upstate portions of North and South Carolina. We do have members residing in other states as well. Our non-profit organization was formed in the late 1970's by a small group of Arabian owners with a similar interest in breeding and promoting our proud breed of horses. We have grown from that small group to approximately 140 adult and 20 youth members. Even though our specific interests vary from endurance, trail, dressage, hunter over fences and even racing, the focus is still on presenting our Arabian horses as a diversified and family oriented horse. Many of our members are license judges and stewards, breeders, trainers, trail riders, endurance riders, show exhibitors and recreation riders. We literally cover the spectrum when it comes to being "horse crazy."
WCAHA proudly presents and supports many programs and events throughout the year. Each spring and fall we offer rated Arabian/half Arabian shows at the WNC Ag Center, Fletcher, NC (spring) and the T. Ed Garrison Arena (fall) in Pendleton SC. As part of the fall show we present our WCAHA Futurity program horses. Our stallion service auction has been able to support our Futurity with more than $160,000 over the past 10 years.
In an effort to promote the Arabian breed to other equine enthusiasts, we support and partner with local groups such as the SC Upstate Equine Council, Clemson Collegiate Horseman Association and the Tri-County Technical Vet Tech Students. Many of the students pursue equine related professions after graduation. We are very proud of their efforts and support of the equine industry.
WCAHA President 2017
WCAHA and its incredible volunteers again acted as host and sponsor for Region XII's Youth Jamboree this past summer. Please accept my heartfelt thanks to all the club members who worked long hours to support our young horsemen and women. This coming year WCAHA will again support the Youth Jamboree at the Garrison Arena in Clemson.
Our club was awarded Club of the Year in 2010 by the Arabian Horse Association in two of four categories. We took honors in membership retention and community outreach. We are proud of our accomplishments and grateful for the recognition on the national stage. This national award speaks volumes about our Officers' and Directors' dedication.
WCAHA membership offers free nomination for members' horses into the club's High Point program and a free luncheon at the club's general membership meeting at the November show. Click here for more information about joining WCAHA.
Visit us often as we post information on a regular basis. Also feel free to contact any of our officers, board members or committee chairs to answer your specific questions. Thank you for visiting.
